Today, 20th of March, The International Day of Happiness is celebrated all over the world. The first ever day of happiness was celebrated on 20th of March, 2013 and was conceptualized and founded by philanthropist, activist, statesmen and prominent United Nation special adviser Jayme Illien to inspire, mobilize and advance the global happiness movement.
We often talk about happiness – be happy, find your happiness. So, what is happiness? Happiness is a mental state of mind characterized by a positive and pleasant feeling that connects with other emotions – from simple satisfaction to an even grater joy. Philosophers and theologians are describing happiness as a living a successful and good life, not only as a simple emotion. On the other hand, psychology dictionary explains that “happiness is the highest humans satisfaction with their life, the purpose of life and the meaning of life.” Of course, the understanding of happiness will not be the same in different cultures. Also it differs significantly between different layers of society and ages.
There is no one magic formula of how to be happy and many aspects involved in this question. Is the happiness coming from inside? Are there any aspects from outside which affect our level of happiness? Whatever the answer is, here is the list of world’s happiest countries.
